Always been my motto, sounds like that's what you were doing.

Glad you made it!
Mine is "Ride like your invisible"

Whatever the motto or saying it's all the same

And yes I like loud pipes too (to a degree of course)

I totally agree with you Tide. I'm someone who likes a really nice rumble comin out of my bike when I'm at idle. Nothing obnoxious or anything & I'm not one to sit and rev the crap out of my bike when its parked either. I hate tools who do that before they leave a bar or something. Just what the owners need for the neighbors to get annoyed by. Its unnecessary...ANYway, back on track here...like most bikers, i think we like to be able to keep our bikes sounding good, but tame, under normal conditions, and nice & loud when we want/need to - like you did. I see nothing wrong with that & encourage it. As long as things aren't obnoxious 24x7, it's all good to me. Most folks I know - even those who don't ride - love to hear the rumble of a Harley goin' by...the only times I've heard anyone complain about bike noise is when they heard the sound & were feelin' the pain that a) they weren't the one riding the bike, or b) want a bike & currently can't afford one - or, c) it was because some tool was revvin the bike obnoxiously.

One other way I use my pipes for safety is to warn deer. Where I live, deer LOVE to jump out from all over the place, but generally, you know the specific areas they tend to cross the road at. So - when I begin to near those locations, I rev up a few times, make a little noise & pop the engine a little. And it works. I've seen deer pop up their heads & run back into the woods...I've seen them IN the road and turn around and go back the way they came. You just won't get that affect with a higher pitched even toned horn. The rumble has definitely saved my life, several times.

Oh - and folks, I have to say this - just 'cuz someone in a car doesn't see you doesn't necessarily make them an a-hole...we know for a fact we're smaller targets to see when we're on our bikes. And I'm sure most of us have had our inattentive moments & either did cause an accident or almost did - either by ourselves, or with other vehicles. I know I've made my share of mistakes while driving, and I've got a great record & lots of miles & expereince under my belt. Stuff happens. I like to save the "a-hole" label for those folks that really are. Like the drunk that pulled into a parking space & up into my friends (and almost me) who were on the sidewalk in front of a bar the other night. Only minor injuries, but thank God the idiot didn't also mistakenly hit the gas and floor them into the brick wall too. This "idiot" didn't even realize he ran into THREE people! Even tried to deny it - when there were probably 30 people out front who saw him do it....crazy....

Man I can never find my horn button but my clutch and rev-limiter is always a fraction of a second away.
