American Iron photo tips
A.I. had the following suggestions in their article Shooting Yer Scoot. After reading this and seeing most of our bike pics in our posts I think we could have done a lot better.
visually appealing angle
not too far away from the bike
wheels lined up (never turn the front wheel from the camera)
background needs to be nice and clutter free
include the environment
I spent about an hour cleaning my bike before I shot the crappy photo below.
look for a new one soon.

Capture the whole bike in the photo, then crop the photo to the ends of the bike; top of the mirror, end of the tail light, bottom of the rear tire or the kick stand, end of the front tire.
Although the bikes look excellent in person in direct sun light, they don't photo well. Take photos on overcast days, or park in shade with sunlight behind you (background sunlight will reflect into the bike like first two below photos). Also in the shade with a flash works just as well or better.
And a background that doesn't distract you from looking at the bike.
