Anybody ever painted the silver motor black.... The jugs and all?
That's gonna be my next winter project and just wanted to ask if anyone has done it. If so could you post some pics and tell me know how you did the jugs.
Remove what you dont want painted, tape off the rest.
BBQ black is an enamel finish, so use a rag with paint thinner and rub over the top of the cooling fins. Takes a couple of hours start to finish
my friend , friend. used hi temp motor paint and did his sporter 1200
motor and his bike looks great..when i saw his bike the job had been
done three years back...over 20 000 miles.. it did work for him..
see my signature. This bike was a superglide custom. been painted a year now held up perfectly fine. One thing is the paint will not withstand brake cleaner or fuel on it.

Will that BBQ paint stand up to gas?
Naz
Naz, there arent very many spray paints that will. For the most part, once the paint is fully cured, a little gas wont hurt it. and if it does, give it a quick touch up.
BTW, it was my local dealer that told me to do this.
I couldnt see spending 3000 bucks for a can of spray paint when I bought the bike.
just gotta laugh as the sentence above this post mentions that the rattle can will not stand up to brake cleaner or fuel. Fuel is the term I am using for gas...LOL.
