New shifter noise starting at 400 miles
My '06 SG has forward controls put on it. I was also told by the dealer when I bought the bike that the tranny recall was done.
Bike has been riding fine for 400 miles. Just yesterday, however, a new behavior started when shifting gears.
Used to be, I'll pull in the clutch and shift gear, which would generate a single "clunk" sound. I'd release the clutch with no extra noise. All was good.
NOW, when I pull in the clutch and shift gear, and I get a slightly different "clunk" sound, almost a bit quieter. THEN, when I release the clutch, I get another smaller "clunk" sound. It sounds very much like the gear is not fully engaged until I release the clutch, which slams it further into gear.
Incidentally, right before I noticed this change in behavior, I was approaching a stop light in NEUTRAL. When I went to put it into first, even with clutch in, I couldn't get it in, like it was grinding the gears. Took 3 or 4 attempts, before it went into gear. Only happened that one time, but now I have the "double clunking" gear change noise.
Is it possible the recall was never done?

RE: New shifter noise starting at 400 miles
Sounds like what I had when my tranny finally needed the recall. Is there a different feel to the downshifting? That's what I had when things went bad. Just take it to the dealer. They will make it right. I've had several problems with my bike, but they have all been addressed by my dealer.
The problems are a bit frustating but my dealer so far has taken care of very well. BTW the dealer I now use is not the dealer I bought it from. The right dealer can make all the difference. Good Luck!!!!!!!
