Default horn problem?

went to lay into it the other day driving by a buddy i knew and the damn thing fell flat!

...sounded muffled

i used the search function and found that some say spraying some WD-40 in the cone might fix it.... tried it, but nothing

took it off...ran it direct to battery and it's fine.... checked all my connections, and those are fine

...anyone know what gives? ....seems to be an intermittent problem

i might just head to autozone and pick up a car one.... see if that'll fix it

but if i ran it direct and it works, then something's amiss ...???

Try sprying some WD 40 into the connector. Could be gunk on the copper.

I just replaced my horn and the new one wouldn't work properly. Sounded muffled, but was OK when wired direct. Couldn't find anything wrong anywhere.

I installed a relay and that sorted it. There must be a loss of power somewhere in the bike's wiring, but there is enough left over to operate the relay. Fine now, so that is my suggestion.

I fitted the relay under the tank close to the horn, so the original wire to the horn wire fits straight on, ran a new earth/ground wire from the relay to the same point as the horn, new wire from relay to horn, new wire with a fuse in it from battery to relay.

Hope that helps.

Mine does the same thing. I can't find the problem. Works great 90% of the time, but every now and then it sounds like I stepped on a cat instead of sounding like a horn.

If the horn is grounded it will sound that way. When I moved mine I had that problem until I made sure the isolator mount was actually isolating the mounting screw from the frame.

Alright... I bought a 130db auto horn from Autozone last night and installed it.

It's fine.... works great... no problems at all

I don't get it... I'm suspecting that the OE horn couldn't operate on the current that was left over after everything else was up ...design flaw, maybe?

anyway, this thing is loud .... and now i can get a sticker

That's what I found as well. It has to have some flex or it will not sound right. When I moved mine under the battery box I used a bracket that allowed a little wiggle and it sounds the same as stock.
