Chrome is way easier to keep clean than polished aluminum. It isn't even close.

my dealer was more than happy to swap out the spoked rims on my FXDC with the standard dyna cast rims prior to me piking up the bike. i actually saw 'my spokes' on a silver standard dyna on their foor, and they sure looked nice.

i didnt want the hassle of cleaning the spokes, worrying about them going out of tru, or having to worry about tubes. spokes are real pretty, but i prefer looking at them on other peoples bikes.

if thats a big factor on picking the FXDC, i would just ask the dealership to swap them out as part of the sales deal.

More chrome equals more time keeping it clean. I never considered this until I already owned my bike. Oh well.

I spend about 10 minutes after each ride with a soft cloth and a bottle of Invisible Glass just spray the cloth and wipe the bugs off the front then wipe the whole thing off I have only washed my bike 1 time in three months.

Go with the FXDC and don't be worried about the spokes, I have never had a problem with them. +1 on chrome. But what do we know you are the one that is going to be riding and cleaning. Get what you want, what is right for you and your riding style, enjoy.

I have an FXDC, however mine has the cast rims. Last week I took it camping, it got rained on every night, went down a 10 mile dirt/gravel road, got caught in a sleet storm, and rode to my campsite through muddy grass. 30 mins with my Mr. Clean Auto Dry and it was good as new. I usually just wipe the whole bike down with Lemon Pledge and a microfiber towel. Ride more, polish less

I dumped money (and continue to do so) on my FDX. I'm not sure if it would have been cheaper to get the FDXC just to get the chrome I've been adding since day one. I wanted a Street Bob, but my buddy said save the money and get the solid wheels, which will come in handy when you're in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire. The custom is a sweet ride. The FDX is a blank canvas. I imagine the difference you save between the two would spruce up the FDX nicely with what you want on it.
