I can only speak from my experience. My old 88 had a Mikuni 42mm, Crane Hi4, SE 211 cams, and a TH. It made 86HP/89TQ. The bike was fast, but TQ down low was almost non-existant. If I had another 88 I'd do the same set up but with TQ cams. What good is high HP if it's at 6000rpm where you don't ride? Max TQ is where it's at for me now.
Couldn't agree more dude...bad a** torque curves make a wicked ride!
Is why im asking cause dont want it too radical but would like more top end and mid range but not give up any torque down low
That is pretty hard to do. When you gain in one area, you usually loose in another. I would suggest an Andrews 26.
Andrews 26 Bolt-in cam 88-95 inches and stock compression ratio. Great for two-up touring, this cam will add torque and HP at lower and middle RPM ranges (1800-5200 RPM).
do heads and cams or nothing until you can do both, costs alot of $$$ to do it right the second time, heads will bump up the compression too. a 2-1 exhaust will help alot too..
Stick with the chain and new tensioners unless you are going to do major bottom end work. These flywheels/cranks can't handle the tolerances needed for gears. I've learned this the very hard way...

Which no matter how much $$$$ still CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE MONSTER..
