Default Finally finished polishing my covers! Pics...

I've been working on stripping and polishing the covers on my bike and I finally finished up this weekend. I did the inner and outer primary cover, trans top cover, clutch side cover and cam cover. It was A LOT of work, but the end result is worth it. I think it looks great, plus I have the satisfaction of doing the work myself.

I want to thank Mud for the inspiration to do this. Also, thanks to Joe for tips and advice along the way. You guys were right, it is some work! I'm just trying to decide on a new derby cover now. I'm kinda tired of the Willie G. Skull. I'm seeing too many of them.

Looks good.
Many years ago, I did mine.
I really got to know my buffing wheels.
You are right, it takes a while.
The results are outstanding.

Thats awesome! That really looks great. Did you have to put some clear coat over to keep from rusting or anything?

Before I changed the polished the alum. for chrome I would use a product from Starbrite, Marine Polish for alum. boats, it's in a blue plastic bottle. Protects from rain real well and won't burn off like wax. I also use it on chrome surfaces. Those covers do look good.

Gotta love that polished look. I cheated and bought some used ones from an '02 (though they needed a good bit of work), but I guess that's not an option for the newer bikes. Nice job.

Damn nice. Did you start with steel wool or paper. Looks fantastic. I've been doing mine but nowhere near the results you have! - Nice work.

What kind of rotors do you have? Are they the stock ones?
