Thanks for all the positive feedback
Adrian - No clear coat. I actually want it to weather a little. Get a nice patina on it. I don't want it to look like chrome. I will keep it polished. You would be surprised how well it repels water when it's all shined up.
Cadore - Thanks, I need to put up a new avatar pic. That was before I put the 11" 412s on the rear, and I am having my heat shields powder coated gloss black. It's going to look good. I'm from La. too by the way... Baton Rouge...Graduated from La. Tech up in Ruston.
George - I actually started with 220 grit sandpaper. That aluminum under the powder coat was really textured and pitted. I used 220, 400, 600, 1000, then 2000 and then put it on the buffing wheel with three different compounds of jewelers rouge. Like I said a lot of work, and you can't get in a hurry. It is a process. There were times in the sanding process where I sanded my fingers raw. I also used a dremel tool to get the places that the big wheel couldn't get. The inner primary cover was the worst part. Here's a pic of the trans top cover after an initial run with the 220 grit. Notice how bad it is pitted.
