What gear at what MPH??

Wow didn't expect this many replies..hahaha
Anyway I can shift just fine by the seat of my pants when accelerating and or getting on it hard, it was cruising speeds that were throwing me for a loop, you know residential speeds. Seems like the bike doesnt like to go slow at a steady speed for long periods, maybe just me. Plus at highway speeds it is hard to here the motor over the wind noise sometimes. But with the info here I know it is ok to cruise at 30 in second no prob and now I shift into 3rd at 35 or if the law is around or if I dont want to **** off the neighbors 30mph. I never leave 5th unless 70mph or over. Thanks agian guys......

I am curious - How did it feel going 146mph on a Wide-Glide?

That's why I have a tach. I still have stock pipes on my '09 SG and couldn't hear the pipes over 40 mph. Now I glance at the tach every once in a while and ride between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm. This keeps me in the range most have mentioned.
If I am excellerating hard, I'll shift at about 4,000.

I'm running an 09 Dyna Super Glide Custom I have the Tach and D&D Fat Cats and Stage 1.....The Scooter sounds just about right accelerating to 4k but cruising at about 2.8 to 3K. I'm glad I have the Tach. Personally I think its one of the better additions. Of course, I don't have the best of hearing....Imagine that...

You are the one that said it was verified by multiple GPS runs. I thought maybe my speedo was broke and my bike might actually be able to go that fast too.

If this is correct, then I guess I never leave closed loop mode. I don't have a tach but by this chart I only hit 4000 rpm in 2nd and 3rd sometimes getting on the interstate. 3000 in all of the others, and that is about as high as I go.
Here are the RPM vs Gear specs.

I had the same problem on my 09 FXD and bought a micro tach from http://www.speedwayinstruments.com/p...microtach.html
Best investment of $150 I ever made! Now I shift somewhere around 3,000rpm and try to keep it above 2,500rpm at all times. At 70 mph it is doing around 2,700rpm in 6th. These 96" like to be around 3000rpm!
