Default 1998 fxdl front springs

just picked one of these up to jump around town with. i find the front suspension to be very soft. it has 12k miles. i also have the SM, but cant quite tell how easy it is yet to just drop in some progressives.

looks like i can jack it up, pop off the fork covers, slide out the old springs and drop in the new ones. not lowering it, stock height.

is it this easy? or do i have to do anything else.

thank you - tin

That is exactly what I did but I also drained the oil to add fresh Amsoil Shock Therapy. I would not go with anything heavier than Medium #10 weight.

Thats just about it, why not change the fork oil while you are at it? The fork caps will be under spring tension so be careful while unscrewing them. I've got a 05 FXDLI and the front seems stiffer then the 02 Superglide I have.

You can do a search here to check, the #15 will hit like a brick. I used #5, then just changed to a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of #5 and #10 and that is stiff enough for me, I weigh 180#. I won't even go to a straight #10, that's why I say don't go heavier than #10.

thx mike. i did search a little , but really appreciate the reply and your experience. oil on these are easy enough to change so sounds like i will start with 10wt. i also have an 03 ultra and fork oil changes are a day long event.
