Default Cams

Sorry, i know its here somewhere, and have searched, just cant seem to find what im lookin for. Have heard and read somewhere about replacing cams. Im lokoin for information on the pros/cons of it. was orderin parts the other day from the stewaler and mentioned it, ended up orderin some 255's along with v&h pipes, screamin eagle intake and tuner. he basically said cams are a simple swap, easy hp. what am i gettin into here? im really just lookin for more power, and better sound

You're being exposed to the "snowball affect". Cams will get you a porting bill because you'll inevitably want to maximize the cams by doing some performance work on the cylinder heads. I know. I have cams sitting at the house and the idea of dropping another $600+ on headwork from a reputable porter is also on the table. It just doesn't make sense to have cams that aren't working as efficient as possible.

Then of course, you'll want more power and end up doing a big bore kit.

Surely is the snowball affect indeed.

Good luck.

I've had cams in my 07 bob for a year and the difference is amazing. I installed them, then, knowing that I'd eventually send the heads out to port and cylinders out to bore to 103 along with pistons, by HQ.

cams are the "TC-500 Hurricanes"

Parker,

Here is a link to a 5 part write up on changing cams, look it over, and then you can judge whether you want to take it on yourself.

That's an excellent link. I've read it a few times now over the past few months.

I did big bore kit and some light head work, slip on's, stage one tuner and airfilter. Major improvment in torque. Ran it after the slip ons, stage 1 and airfilter. Good improvment. Then I did the big bore kit and cleaned up the runners and the bowls in the heads. Nothing fancy. Major improvement in torque. I am going to get it dynoed when the dealer has a free dyno day and see how much h.p. I gained from stock.
