What year bike? If your bike has O2 sensors, leaded gas will f' them up. Also, if your bike has a catalytic converter (not sure what year they were introduced in the stock mufflers), leaded fuel will mess that up.

You can run 11:1 on pump gas. I believe mudpuddle's bike is 11:1 also. Make sure you have compression releases, and you may have to back off the timing to avoid pinging, but you shouldn't need to run 113 octane.

I have run 110 octane leaded fuel in my ironhead, mostly because I wanted the lead in the gas. It runs fine, but no better than 93 octane unleaded. I usually just add lead additive to regular gas because I've had problems with the exhaust valves beating themselves into the heads.

Why not do some head work and install some hardened seats?

After the second time it happened, I did just that. The lead additive is just a precaution.

safe to run but don't expect any performance gain. A nice side effect is high octane gas exhaust smells great! Bad part is, you will get lead deposits on your piston crowns and spark plugs with prolonged use, and the plugs may turn yellowish. Safe to run some for fun if you want though.
