How I jack my Dyna
Some of you have commented on my unorthodox jack set up that is in my sig and featured in my winter mod thread. Sooo I thought I'd share just how I make it work.
First I use my trusty floor jack under the front motor mount cross bar with the bike still on the stand (jiffy or jack depending on your lineage I guess). Then I jack it up as high as it I can and still be stable on the stand (this is actually pretty far BTW).
Then I slide one of my jack stands under the higher side right at the junction of the down tube and the frame under the motor. (these are stands with a pretty deep "U" shape to them). Then I stradle the bike and tilt it up onto that stand and off the floor jack and my son/daughter/wife/friend slides the other stand under the other side in the same spot and I set her down easy into it and check that it is stable and seated in the stands.
This gets the front end off the ground and is stable as a rock.
To lift the rear I can simply grab the struts on either side and lift the back end up and have son/daughter/wife/friend slide another stand under the frame right at the swing arm mounts. (I have done this myself with the floor jack as well)
I know that most of you are skeptical, but I can sit on the bike and wrench on it too with no problem whatsoever. I think it is more stable than a jack as the stands spread out the load and don't roll. Plus the frame is cradled in the front stands and not just sitting flat on a platform where they can slide a bit if shoved.
