Default Vance and Hines slip-ons

I just bought a new '09fxdb and I don't want to get into the expense of a stage 1 kit yet. I was thinking about a set of Vance and Hanes Straightshots slip-ons to give the bike some better sound and they let you keep the original, swept back shape of the pipes. Can anybody comment on these mufflers? eg. sound...any considerable loss of power...how easy are they to install...will I need to remap...
By the way...great forum here. I'm on every chance I get.

They are Very easy to install , and I think they sound GREAT !! I added the Quiet baffles for a tad mor backpressure because I was still under 500 miles and I wanted to break the bike in with similar backpressure to the stock pipes, but I am leaving them as is . the rest of my bike ( enginewise ) is dead stock and at 1000 and 1500 miles my plugs are perfect. ..................Get them , Put in the Quiet baffles, You will LOVE them

Unless you want ear-splitting loudness you need to get the Quiet Baffles for the V&H slip-ons. Even with those you're going to **** off the neighbors and set off car alarms.

My brother in law put them on his 08 fxdb and they sound great. He didn't do anything else and it runs good. They are pretty simple to install. I say go for it.

I've got them on my Superglide and am happy with them. With no other changes, you will get popping on deceleration. Eventually add a V&H fuel pack and different air cleaner for more power and reduced popping.
Yeah, they can set off car alarms but that doesn't mean that they have to...just take it easy on the throttle and you will be fine. As far as pissing off the neighbors, the guy next door to me says they sound good. Of course he rides a Harley too so he may be a bit biased.

Pretty much with most all open pipes, you'll likely get some decel popping, even when the bike has been tuned. But what a difference when you add the AC and a proper tune!

WOW...this is a lot of good info..they sound like they are just what I'm looking for, think I'll go for them. As for pissing off the neighbors, I live across the road from a graveyard...I don't think they'll mind..

You'll be happy with them. Check the classifieds here, and eBay before you buy new. I found a set for 50 bucks !
