Default What lenght of rear shock to choose?

I am going to replace stock rear shocks on my Dyna FXDC 08 with Ohlins ones. The lenght of stock shocks is 12.6" (320mm) but i can only choose 305mm (65mm travel) or 340mm (83mm travel) Ohlins. Do you have any recommendation about which lenght to choose?

I would go for the 305mm, that is about 12inch which is stock on my BOB. I also change my wife’s Dyna to 12s and it rides and looks better.

It depends a lot on how and where you ride.

If you ride in the twisties, and like to ride reasonably quickly, you have to raise the bike up (or it will drag). There are lots of threads on this on this forum.

For most other riding, a lower shock would work OK (still not as much travel), and the lower look looks cool.

My Ohlins are length adjustable....

You have probably seen this, but

I run Essex Motorsports shocks with adfjustable ride height. They adjust from 10.75"-12.25" I like the options and they work well for me.

My riding style would chose the 340mm.

I'm curious. If you raise the bike up, doesn't that create a higher center of gravity causing the bike to handle worse?

My old bike (78 yamaha 1100) was fairly tall but handled great. I dunno. Maybe I'm confusing myself.

As of yesterday the new separated (non-emulsified), adjustable: rebound, length, and spring tension are now available with about one week to get the parts from Sweden. There are no numbers as they are custom made.
*325 +5mm/-5mm = low of 320 millimeter = 12.598” (12 19/32”) inch through 330 millimeter = 12.992” (almost 13”)
*329 +5mm/- 5mm = low of 324 millimeter = 12.755” (12 ¾”) inch through 334 millimeter = 13.149” (13 9/64”)
*336 +10mm/-0= low of 336 millimeter = 13.228” (13 7/32”) inch through 346 millimeter = 13.622” (13 5/8”)

Things are changing fast.
