130ish on my BMW R1150R and 140 on a buddy's Ducati 900SS (solid as a rock on that one). I've had my 05 FXDCI up to an indicated 110 once, but it sure felt like it ran into an aerodynamic wall at that point. It got to 100 pretty quickly, 110 took a bit longer and then it just wouldn't gain any more speed. No biggee, because for me the best thing about my Harley is that it's fun to ride at legal speeds. After having kids, I've sort of lost the desire to push the speed boundary anyway.

Regarding the "wobbly" touring bikes, all I can say is that the 07 Road King I spent a little time riding felt substantially more planted and solid than my Dyna. That thing almost seemed to be on auto-pilot. I WILL have a touring bike someday!

Broke 100 on my old xs650 back in the late 70's. Had to lay on the tank, feet on the passenger pegs, right hand on the throttle and left on the tree. That was fast enough. Had the FXDI up to about 90 on I-5 south of Stockton, CA and it felt like it was on rails. Plenty of 'go' left in her.

It is a misconception that the fairings are heavy ... they're really quite lightweight ... there may be a little additional weight with the radio unit and speakers and the additional gauges ... the shell of the fairings are made of plastic composite or fiberglass or something lightweight ...

All of the additional hoo-haa on my bike when it's all "dressed" out probably doesn't add 40 lbs ... unless I start filling the bags up ....

p.s. oh yeah ... never had an open stretch of deserted road to take it up there ... so far just above 95, but was paranoid the LEOs would materialize ....

Been 160 on my fj 1200 rice rocket(got pulled over too),now on my dyna 120 and will try for more when there are less cars around( dosent handle like a RR thats for sure). Been 100 with the cruise on why texting on my phone, Did a long-lane split at 135 on my rocket,(as long as nobody moves i will live,,nobody moved) Thank god!!!
So how fast does a dyna go??? Wish i had my stock bars, i would try it! Mine starts wobbling at 75-80 then sometimes at 85-90? I will try over 100+ REAL SOON! Maybe it will go away!

Sitting here reading all the responses and the girlfriend says " And you talk about people in cars acting like asses!" I guess she has a point! I won't do it again!

Any amount of weight attached to the forks that doesn't have the center of mass located on the steering head axis is a destabilizing factor. The difference in weight between a RK and an Ultra is about 77 pounds. The fairing probably weighs about 30/35 lbs altogether. Essentially all of the fairing's mass is ahead of the steering head axis. For stability, especially in crosswinds and bumpy curves, this is not a good scenario. That and the additional weight of the tour pack and part of the bag weight located aft of the rear axle just adds to the instability issues at high speeds, maybe even more than the fairing does. Add to that the less-than-rigid swingarm mounts on the pre '09 baggers and you have a non-recoverable high speed wobble waiting to happen. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

My 09 Road King will run 110. Maybe with more road 115. It will get to 100-105 fairly quick. That bike is not very aerodynamic. Solid as a rock at that speed. And Oh by the way, I haven't had any luck getting my cruise control to operate over the 80-85 mph range. Others I have talked to report the same.

Interstate flight, bury the speedo above 120 with ease.

May wire in the SERT for data collection and record above 120...
