So for the guys that loosened all the mounts and let the engine settle into a "natural" resting state: has that affected the handling at all?

It didn't on mine. But shimming did.

Instead of messing around installing shims that may affect handling, why not install bar-end weights if handlebar vibration is the issue? I had bar vibration only to discover it was a heat shield hose clamp rubbing the frame. I'm not sure, but if it truly is a front motor mount problem, doesn't Harley have an upgraded mount available?

Shimmed my 09 fbob tonight only took 1 5/16 washer to space it, I'll report if any difference.

I am a bit concerned that the mount preload is designed in as basically by shimming the mount I moved the location of the motor slightly.

Default shimming

Excuse my ignorance, but if you loosen all of the motor mounts and then run the engine, aren't you going to change the belt tension and alignment?

Thanks

Well to report it did squat for my bike, vibrates like it did before mirrors are still a blur, mine only took a single washer to space it though so the rubber was not preloaded as much as some are reporting.

I just put 2washers on each front mount bolt and didn't notice a change. It started to rain so I only went around the block. Does this mod work at high speeds only or at certain rpm's only? I had 2 bikes riding staggered behind me the other day and in both mirrors their headlights were making trails from side to side. I've never noticed that before, but my mirrors have always had vibration in them.

I did this on mine, when I reinstalled the new rear tire. Wound up putting two fender washers for the thickness on mine... right about 1/8". Did this after I loosened the front and rear mount bolts and ran the engine for about 15 seconds.

It made a big difference on my bike.

Nope. Swingarm bolted to the transmission, which is bolted to the engine.
