I have done both myself and would say $250.00 is extremely fair. I think you would damn near pay a Harley shop that much just to change the lowers.

Nothing wrong with paying a shop to do some work but I think you'd get more satisfaction out of doing it yourself. Swapping tins is not that difficult if you pay attention. Spend $50 on a service manual. It's well worth the cost.

I pulled my forks on my own to have our dealer install a chrome front end kit. Took longer to pull apart than it did to put back together thanks to HD's lovely anti seize.....chewed up two bolts thanks to that....even with an impact. But it was an hour to remove, 30-45 to re install...torque specs took the most amount of time. HD charged me $84 to put the chrome on a ebay kit (St. Paul HD) that cost $112.....$196 invested in my chrome front end!

Tank removal is easy....most time consuming is draining the fuel....front fender is simple....4 bolts, one of which was a pain with the anti seize....see above.....I've looked at removing the rear tin....not a problem. However, I know not all of us are mechanically inclined, HD are soooooooo much different than small block chevys!!! $250 sounds reasonable....our local is $75/hr for shop labor if that helps ya with the amount.

If it's not an EFI model the tank swap is simple. If it is EFI its a bit more involved.

I guess pulling it and swapping are two different things, I didn't have to mess with the guts of the tank on my EFI., I was just putting in jackyls tank lift....good point
