Default Was at the dealer today and

I asked for a quote on installing the SE compensator sprocket, since the bike is still under warranty and all.

You know, it just does not instill a lot of confidence when the guy behind the service desk says "what is that?"..... followed up by "what does it do?"

holy crap......

The SE compensator has much stiffer springs, and actually a different type of spring than the stock one. The stock comp has what a layman would call a standard spring. The SE comp has spring washers, much much stiffer. So it has much more resistance to give in the rotational forces from the crank output to the clutch. ie- also the ability to absorb more force.

Does your bike give that famous dyna 'clunk' upon startup? That's the weak *** stock compensator hitting the end of it's ability to cushion.

The SE series of parts are supposedly for modified bikes, but this is one part that should have came stock. HD knows this, and I believe the SE compensator now comes stock on the Rocker softails.

Just kinda took me by surprise... you would sorta think the guys in the shop should know more than the customer, or at least be up on stuff.

The ensuing conversation was also enlightening after that comment.... basically they have not done ANY performance work on 96" motors. They said they used to do a lot on the 88", but the 96" 'stroker' they have not done much with.

The good aspect about all this, was I think the quote was actually pretty decent. 410 bucks all done, including the compensator and all seals/oils.

Bad aspect about all this, is I don't want to be their first one

Yeah, I buy a few things there, but the big ticket HD items I buy from Zanottis.

I don't feel so bad now about thinking I better install the compensator sprocket myself. Lone Wolf and the other shop in Spokane are a bit of a drive..... however if I'm gonna get a dyno tune this summer, Spokane is it... I don't think the CDA shop has a dyno, but I'm gonna check.

Shumate Spokane are the ones with the Dyno. I think it's like a 180 bucks for a Dyno tune if I remember right. I think shumate will truck it over there for you from lewiston with no extra charge... I think!!
