Default Shifter Shaft Forward Control Removal

Please Advise!
My buddy helped me install my forwards but he is nervous to remove the inner primary to remove the shifter shaft being its not his bike. Does anyone have any advice for this besides keeping it there. He wants to hacksaw it off from the bottom and pull it apart. Has anyone ever done this before? Any other solution? And for the smartasses i want to thank you for your comments in advance! =)

some poeple just leave it - hd has a cap for it so it looks a lil cleaner - I wouldnt hack saw it - id either leave it or remove inner and remove it correctly - not hard but is involved - you can pm me if you want to go that route - a few others on here speak about the hacksaw method
good luck either way

Hacksaw it.
I did, no big deal since I never plan on going back to mids.
Doing it the "correct way" is a waste of time and money.

To be honest, it doesn't take a whole lot longer to pull the primary than it does to hacksaw it. I've done it both ways and would rather pull the primary than F^CK with sawing on that shaft again.

actually ill agree with pa jay if there is no plan to go back - but I for one did decide to go back to mids after running fwds for a couple years - but 20 bucks will get you a used mid control set up on ebay if you decide later
that said i dont consider working on my bike a waste of time - even if its just to gain a lil more understanding of what goes where - maybe just me tho

Someday you may have to replace the belt, you can remove the shift shaft at that time. Or just buy a chrome inner primary and install it now as well.

It's not that hard of a job if you have the service manual.

Hack it in two from the bottom, saves ya time, effort, money and primary fluid.
You'll be done in about 20 minutes.

You really don't need to do either. Just leave it in place and remove it if and when you need to service that area of the bike. If you push it in and then wedge the armiture part of it behind one of the engine bolt heads (You'll see which one when you try it) the shaft is flush with the outer primary and it does not move. I did this with mine 8K miles ago and not once has it vibrated loose.
