I have a 2000 super glide with 40000 miles. The last owner switched to AMS oil several changes ago. I am considering changing to castrol 20-50, its less expensive and simpler to get. Can anyone offer a reserched openion. Thanks for any help.
Go with a name brand synthetic of the correct viscosity, and you'll be fine. Everybody here has their favorite brand of oil, so you'll get a bunch of different opinions.
should be just fine with the castrol... Synthetics do have the advantage of running a little cooler and not breaking down as easily if the temp. of the oil climbs beyond a certain point.
I used Castrol GTX 20 50 for years in bikes, now I use their 20 50 Syn blend, 3.79 a quart(similiar to Harley Syn 3) As long as the oil has the same or better specs than syn 3 it's fine IMO.

Yes, you get what you pay for. Amsoil is WAY better than Castrol in a Harley Air cooled engine. In a car engine not much because it's water cooled. But I would stick with Amsoil or Mobil1Vtwin 20w50 from autozone. But put 75w90 gear oil in your trans.

And when I took her out for a ride on Sunday becasue the temps reached 58 degrees, I found that she ran very well. As a matter of fact, the top end noise could harldy be heard at all. Not bad for $13.50 for a 5 quart jug. That will get me 2 oil changes!
Never used Amsoil in my bike but we use it at work in all our trucks. Good stuff... a little pricey, but worth the money IMO. We rebuilt a 350 truck motor a year or two ago that had been running amsoil for several thousand miles and I gotta say, I've never seen the inside of an engine that clean.
I've used M1 V-twin 20w50 with real good results, my cyl. pistons and lifters looked real good after 33k mileson my 02. 02 FXD and 05 FXDLI both have it.
