Diffrentce between a dyna custom and a low rider

Not knocking the LR, it's a great bike. And it's not the only one that I couldn't see the price difference in - and that was before they lowered the price on the custom the year after I bought mine. They all have different seats, but they have seats (that suck as far as comfort) nonetheless. They all have different handlebars, but they all have handlebars nonetheless. Some have different fenders, but they all have fenders. See where I'm going with this?
Back to the LR vs. Custom comparison, the differences aren't what they used to be. The tanks are a little different but almost all of the additional rake the LR used to have is now gone. One has black powder coat on the engine and the other has grey - but they are both powdercoated - so, does it cost 2 grand more for black powdercoat? I doubt it. The LR comes with highway pegs - but what do they cost? Not even close to 2 grand. I didn't want highway pegs anyway, I wanted forwards. I wish they would all come with that factory option like the fatbob does. The shocks are lower on the LR but I replaced mine with 12" Progressive HD shocks for less than $200. So, apparently a tachometer is a very expensive option? LOL

I bought mine in Jan 06 and at that time the out the door difference at the dealers sale was about $900. So the chrome, tach, pullback risers & bars on the FXDL made sense. But the real selling point was the low seat height and how the higher seat puts pressure on my back. I also wanted mid controls. So, the lowrider "fit" me perfectly and I don't have to stretch at all to ride the bike. Price was secondary....comfort & feel was the thing that sold me.

Both are great bikes and cant go wrong either way.
Benefit to SG custom
Cheaper
Extras on the Low rider that add to cost
Little more chrome
More Rake
Tach
Highway pegs
Some things some might prefer on each but no added cost
Low Rider gives
Lower Stance
Black Motor
Mag Wheels
SG Custom gives
Higher Stance
Larger tank
Dash Mounted Ignigtion switch
Grey Motor
Wire Wheels
Replaceable Tank badge
I figure the Low Rider has 1k in extras give or take. The rest comes down to personal preference.

Come on now Dom, there are a lot more differences than that and if you add up the cost of the extras you get on the custom to put on a FXD standard, going with the custom off the floor is clearly the better deal, if those options appeal to you. You can't make the same cost comparison between the custom and the LR or the StreetBob unless you consider the cost of pulling the motor and powdercoating it black and reinstalling it, which the moco does not have to do when assembling a new bike.
