Fat Bob headlight - DOT approved glass?????
Had a rock hit my Fat Bob headlight the other day and was wondering if this glass is actually DOT approved. From how it cracked, it looks suspect. I had to put some clear tape on it to get me home, but it should be apparent in the pixs how it cracked. In applying the tape, the glass was splintery, not like safety glass - cut my finger.
Any comments?
FYI - integrated dual headlight bucket assembly is $220 not including outer chrome housing, just headlight glass and plastic bucket.

As far as I know, unlike with windshields and side glass, there are no DOT specs regarding the composition of headlight lenses or their shatter resistance. The only restriction is that the glass has to be optically clear (not tinted). Manufacturers can use plain glass, lead crystal, acrylic plastics, or optical-grade borosilicate glass. Of these, plain glass offers the least clarity while borosilicate offers the most.
