Default Dilemma Warranty Lowrider and shift shaft seal UPDATE

Well fluid is leaking from the shaft seal. Here is my dilemma. I have 2 months of warranty left. But the dealer has closed the local store. Which means a 60 mile ride with my wife following to bring me home. I will have to miss work for both trips. And truthfully I am afraid if they fix it it will turn into one of these on going fiascoes. I have an indy here who is top notch and I really trust. Is this fix something I should tackle, should I use my warranty, or take it to the indy.

What would you do?

Any sound advice will be respected appreciated!

Thanks Shawn

Well I do know he is a certified harley mechanic. In fact he was the mechanic at the dealer.

I'm pretty sure that's a no. Indy's aren't affiliated with Harley. They do get parts from them occasionnally tho. I'd get it done under the warranty...sounds like it could be costly. Then maybe have your indy check it out. I'd squeeze every bit out of that warranty...mines got 3 months left on the extanded warranty. If anything big happens I want it to happen in the next 3 months. After that I'm on my own. Bike has'nt been in a dealership shop in a couple years.

You know I think I may have panicked a little bit. I just went out and read the manual and looked at the bike. You are right.

Thanks Shawn

I'd just take it in under warrantee, I can't believe you'd have to miss work both ways isn't your dealer open on week ends? if not it should be open at least one of your off days off.

How much does the Indy want to fix it.

If its not that much then might not be worth the hassle of taking it in.

Those seals cost less than $1. I just called the stealer cause I need them too.

Mid control shaft tower gaskets-part# 63869-06

Easy job. But the outer primary gasket is $30. You shouldn't have to pay for that. Unless you plan on reusing the gasket (and that seems dumb since leaking is the problem to begin with) I would have the dealer do the work or ship a gasket to you or your indy free of charge.
