Yup.
It is illegal to use aftermarket HID components in halogen housings. It used to be illegal to use ANY HID equipment not factory installed, but that changed in the past few years. Now they say you can use them as long as the housing (be it reflector or projector) is designed to handle the insanely bright HID bulbs, i.e. focus it properly and reduce the glare that blinds oncoming drivers.

Ballast is stuck right on the neck of the frame. It's thin and black, so no biggie. The igniter is inside the frame neck, behind the grommet(s).

Seriously guy, save it or tell it to EVERY OTHER CAGER (Infinity, Range Rover, this list goes on and on) on the road too. The HID light coming out of their lights is piratically the same as ours, please...

Good informative members
With all of my conversations with the engineers in specic’ing out my kit they were adamant in the 24” rule from ballast to bulb. I have also tried to put out 2 ballasts in one for the guys with passing lamps. They work well except for the fact you need one ballast per bulb where two for both sides (one each) would be more cost effective. The problem is the 2 ballasts in one is not lasting the 3,200 hours min. Back to spending more money on research for this.
benwiggin2, biggdog747 “if you've ever had hid's in the past, they're hard to live without” are correct as far as a HID kit. Once you have one you will never be without one ever again if you ride at night. As far as “The HID light coming out of their lights is practically the same as ours, please...” I have been using mine for over 2 years minimum. I aim mine than ride. Any light if it is not aimed properly will be a hazard to oncoming drivers. The photo is a comparison taken side by side with identical bikes by one of our members here. No touch-up or trick photography.
There are hundreds of thousands of HID light out there on cars. If you purchase the correct bulb with a converter than you will have no problems focusing your light on the road in a correct pattern. Anyone who says different either has their own agenda for finical gain, ignorant of the correct lighting products and experienced with them, or is just talking about a subject they know nothing about.
