Someone may have had this rant in the past but its my turn..
Through this winter mod ive been doing several of the parts i order the guy will tell me .
That is not gonna work on your bike..!!
So i just tell him to order it ill deal with that..
After enough times they ask if i just read the accessory book all day..
Its kinda funny..
Anyway !!!!!!!

Yeah, or I will tell them I need a part by the name and they look at you funny. Then you explain what it is and they still look at you funny. So you throw a part# at them, they look it up and go "oh wow".

When all it takes is someone to punch up some part numbers on a pc...doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get a gear-head helping you.

No, but you might get somebody that "thinks" they are a gear head and that can be far worse.

How true! As a former parts guy I can tell you this, it's getting near impossible to find good people. You get guys with no clue but their wife can write a mean resume, guys that know their stuff but are freekin lazy and once in a blue moon you get one worth a damn. The unfortunate part is they don't want to pay so they can reserve the profit. You pay well and get the right guy people come back and your volume preserves the profit. I would love to sell parts at a Harley dealer, would be fun as heck and I know I could do a much better job than our local guy did before he was laid off.

I've had the same problem. The parts guys I deal with are all very nice, but they don't know to much. I don't claim to know much more, but what I don't know, I find out here before I go into the dealer so at least I know what I'm talking about.

My dealer had a great parts guy, buy he changed positions, within the dealership. The new guy isn't bad. He's young, and just got repositioned into the parts dept. He's fairly knowledgeable, but at least he doesn't pretend to know everything. If he doesn't, he'll ask the old guy for wisdom.

I dont buy anything from the local HD dealer. They are all a bunch of (insert bad word here). The parts guys is at the top of the list.

Only time I go in there is to look at bikes and didnt even buy mine from them.

Local Indy is ran by a really nice husband and wife. He has been doing it for 30 years so he knows his stuff pretty good. If I buy local I buy from them, but I buy alot online.

I hate it when you get the wrong advice. but, I would rather have a guy question it than knowingly sell me the wrong part. besides how is the parts kid going to learn if you dont help him out.
