No, you don't have to spend a lot of money to get something to protect your skull. However, I do tend to laugh at people who are more concerned about their appearance in a helmet than it's usefulness for safety.
Some dude here just called me a "****", but at least I'm not a fashion princess being worried about how the damn thing makes my hair look. It's a piece of safety gear. What's the point of having one if it won't offer any protection; just to hold up your stickers?
Yes, yes, I know. Some states still have helmet laws and folks are obliged to wear them, whether they offer any protection or not.
