Don't know if DOT is a priority for you, to each their own. I wear a DOT, a cheaper one made by Street & Steel Helmets, paid 50 for it at a cycle gear store. It is the sleekest DOT half helmet that i have put on (never tried on one of the carbon fiber ones) and trust me that's a lot. Worth checking out, especially since they have a 7 day no hassle return policy. Rode 300 miles in it yesterday and still think it's comfortable. Had a HD one before and hated it for what it's worth...

I'm thinking on getting one of the German helmets in flat black with a 4 inch red spike on it.

I have the Fulmer V2 blue with flakes fits snug payed $60. Looks good. You can always gut some of the foam out or buy a biltwell for a little more money. Have a carbon fiber half helmet great helmet for warm weather and super light. Try them before you buy them.

For the dirt, I only bought bell motostar helmets. I always considered them the best, but I have not ridden dirt in quite a few years now.
I would assume they make a good street helmet.
Personally,I haven't found anything that looks good on my head other than a novelty polo. Even the ACC carbon fiber helmet looked like crap and big $$$$. I bought the HCI retro with the ear flaps since it was different, the smallest one I could find that looked "ok" on my head, keeps my ears warm and DOT so I don't get a ticket. They discontinued them, probably because they didn't do crap in a crash. Actually, they sold really well in Europe, but not here. There are still some left overs out there if you search. Just get a decent helmet and put a sticker on it that says, "not worn by choice"!

Note on the ACC carbon fiber helmet;
I could not get it to stay on my head properly, no matter how tight the chin strap, I could just peel it off frontwards or backwards and I tried 3 different ones. If you have the ACC helmet and can do this, send it back, it wont do crap in an accident!
