Default chrome hd rotors

went to hd the other day...looking to put chrome rotor on my 06fxdbi, they said hd doesn't make one for the front because its a floating rotor. i got a rear teardop chrome floating rotor for christmas, not installed yet. Anyone have a hd part number for a chrome front rotor? I find it hard to believe that hd doesn't make one. I have the stock laced wheels, by the way. I will be putting on the chrome lower sliders and thought i could put the rotor on at the same time

You need a 300mm front rotor which is about 11.8". Most HD rotors are 11.5". I went through this before. Try p/n 44821-00 which is the classic chrome front rotor. Looks like the stock floater but with the chrome center. Just measure it and if it's 300mm it will work. Another option is to polish your stock rotor. Polished rotors look just like chrome. People have done it here, maybe some one will post a how to for you.

If you don't mind having the bike down for a little while, you could send your rotor off for polishing. I thought there was a difference between chrome and polished when it comes to rotors but someone put me straight that what appears to be a chrome rotor, is just a rotor that has been highly polished. Another option would be to find an identical rotor and send it to be polished and just swap it out when it comes back. Some warned me against doing that but my indy said he does it all the time and it's not a problem. Just make sure you have the correct rotor and check it for "trueness" before using it.

When my rims come back from the chromers, I'll be swapping my rear rotor for an identical polished one and I've already sent the front one off (since it came off a different type of wheel) to be polished.

Where did you send it to be polished? What kinds of places do that?

I'm surprised Joe K hasnt checked in yet. If you want something polished, send it to JRK. He polishes everything.

Honestly, you can do it yourself in an afternoon.

So, Joe: a question then bud: does the polishing affect the braking performance at all? Such as decrease it?

Any impact on braking?

EDIT: Wow, look at that, simultaneous posts asking the same question!

Spooky!

Chrome pros does polishing but many other places do as well. CP quoted me $65 to polish a front rotor off a set of FXD mags which has a smaller surface area than most but I'm not sure they were even aware of that when they quoted me.

No offense to Joe, as he and I have discussed this before. And I guess it depends on how much elbow grease and time you put into the polishing. But there is polishing and then there is mirror polishing which is what, I'm sure, the poster is looking for since he refers to "chrome rotors".

ha ha ha ha no offence taken, i have all the equipt to get a mirror finish... i do it... on my cafe build i did not want that so i stopped about 1/2 way though my rouges... mirror finishes on a 30 year old bike just would look out of place with the style i am going for.
no it does not affect braking at all... just before you install them rub the contact areas down real well with some denatured alchole... then break in your breaks... 5 mph stop, 10 stop, 20 stop, 35 stop... that will wear off any extra polish in no time! then you are golden!
