rickshog...Basically the metal piece you need is 1" wide 1/8" thick. Since I don't know if all of the tanks have the same mounting bolt size, I used the same size that originally mounted mine.. (I have a 2006 FXDI ).. I went to LOWES and bought a new pair about 1/2 " longer than the original. The reason I did that was since my new metal piece was straight not offset I needed to place two washers on each size of the bottom tank frame mount to take up the space that an offset piece of metal would normally occupy. The top mount (on Tank) didn't need the extra washers. The metal I used where just wall or shelf corner brackets that I bought at WALLY MART they had pre-drilled holes. I first used one bracket that had pre-drilled
holes spaced at 1 3/4" .. I just changed out those with a set that had 3" holes... worked great only had to move my throttle cables around a little for better clearance. I also rounded the ends with my grinder and painted them.. One problem I had was stupid me I had just filled my tank..... I emptied it out.. that was a pain... I cut the fuel line that ties the two sides together and put a longer one in to give me the 3" lift... between this post and my other one I think I pretty much covered it... I like the effect it gives the bike... I'd take some pics but my digtal camera bit the dust the other day....Oooooops..

Went to a HD Birthday party today a few friends seen my lift thought it looked great... a couple of guys that I didn't know said it looked cool... another guy said my fuel gauge will be f'cked up and another said it looked like a sportster... Aparently the one guy doesn't know how a HD fuel gauge works, The other guy must have never seen a sportster and any dyna for that matter standing next to each other. The only thing that matters is do you like it, **** the rest!
