Default Dumb Question of the Day... Tuners

Hey guys,

Ok, can someone explain to me the deal with tuners. My father just replaced his old stage one with a new heavy breather. I was thinking I could take his old stage one and put it on my fat bob. Seeing as the tuner does not stay with the bike, could I then use his tuner on my bike? Basically sharing one tuner, saving me the cost of going out and buying my own to sit in the basement as his does.

I feel that I'm missing some understanding on how these things work.

I beleive all the tuners that do not stay on the bike still lock to that bikes ECM and cant be used on others.

I believe bberck is correct from what I've heard. Are you just changing your a/c or do you have aftermarket exhaust as well? Chances are you'll need to buy something separate.

your gonna want your own individual tuner. No two bike can usually be tuned the exact same way. Get a TTS mastertune, SERT, or PCV. and get your bike dyno tuned by the best you can find.

It all depends on what tuner it is. Power commander can be swapped no problem. From what I read sert cannot. If you are just talking about and air filter setup it depends on what bike it came off of and what bike you have.

Default Tuners

I might be wrong but Harley's stage 1 is intake, exhaust, and a download to the ECM. No "tuner" involved. Their SERT (Screaming Eagle Race Tuner) is married to the ecm and cannot be used on any other bike. Other "tuners" like pc (power commander) will work on any bike with a ecm and can be moved to another bike.

He has the SERT. I was looking at using his old stage one, and putting the V&H BR 2-into-1 on. The stage one would be coming off a 2006 street glide and going on a 09 fat bob.

Ok first of all his SERT will not ever work on any other bike.Second his "stage one" download was just that a download to his ECM or fuel injection and could not be transferred to another bike. Now if what you're refering to is his stage one air filter that could indeed be used on your bike but would probably not run very good without some sort of modification to the Fuel injection I.E. a stage one download, SERT,PC5,TFI,IED whatever.
