rear shock upgrade
Feel free to disagree, but this is how I see it. Shock length 12.5-13" on a Dyna, nothing less. And then there's the brand to pick, this is how I rate them. I am assuming handling and suspension are a priority.
1) stock nothing to rave about
2)progressive 412 better barely 224.00 Pr.preload only
3)progressive 440 IAS noticeable improvement 480.00 pr.preload only
4)Works performance single rate tailored for your weight(actually all of them are from this point on) 469.00 pr.
5) Works performance dual rate 649.00 pr.better still
Now we get to the ones that will make a huge difference in handling
6)YSS Z series self adjusting gas shock preload and rebound adjust 399-589.00 pr.
7)YSS G series self adjusting gas shock with piggy back reservoir preload rebound and compression adjust 659-849 pr.
8)Penske preload, rebound, some models compression 1000.00 pr.
I love Harleys but I expect them to handle better than stock, I love the sound, love the look, for me the priorities are suspension first. I expect the experts will chime in, feel free to disagree.I have had the top 6 on my list, never had penske so maybe that's my elusive grail.

That was the whole point, I think I did a fair job of rating the available shocks and put them in the ascending order of price, ALL of them listed are better than stock, nothing wrong with 412's, pick the ones you want based on price. Just trying to lay out all the options.
I took it as someone asking for opinions on which shocks he should buy, and I figured someone that did that much homework, probably already knew

So this opens up the next question. You improve the *** end what about the front? I am aware that you can send them in for re-valving and such but my guess is it usually gets over looked. How about White Brothers? I worked with a guy that sent his stuff to the on his dirt bike but do they do street bikes?

another unit is Ohlins
Another unit is Ohlins as well as JRi Development Group. All different, all unique but looks the same on the outside but different on the inside. Penske and the aforementioned manufactures proved the best in the world. Those are your choices as far as I know. Everything else is settling. Is there a great difference in ride? You bet there is!
