Powdered "chrome" is usually called "10 feet" chrome, because it only looks like chrome from 10 feet away. One of my neighbors is a powder coater, and I talked with him about powder coating my wheels to look like chrome, and that's how he described it.

 

Chrome is chrome and it is a process that can't be substituted for. Ever seen that so-called chrome spray paint? Nothing chrome about it. Now, the "powder chrome" may have it's own look but it will never be true chrome. Now the new color chromes are nice but, in my opinion, a completely different animal than true chrome.

If you've got wheels you want chromed, you really can't complain about the cost, in my view, especially when you look at what chrome replacement wheels cost. I'm getting chrome wheels for about 1/4 of what chrome aftermarkets, that look halfway decent anyway, would cost. Of course I had to buy the wheels to so I have a couple hundred added. But if you already own the wheels, it's pretty cheap I think. Especially when they come out looking like the pic I posted.
