Ya man, 1st time I noticed the noise I thought it might be detonation. So I tried booster, then I tried my dirt bike fuel (110) octane & still had the tink sound. Took it by my indy tuner for another oppinion & he agreed with me that's it's not detonating at all. Had him crack the throttle a few times & I could totally hear it from the primary, that's when we came up with it bein the strain of the direct chain drive with no compensator. Since then I've taken it completely apart 4 or 5 times & nothin has ever been out of wack once & no signs of strange wear, besides the damn rotor & stator (another subject in it's own). It is what it is, ya know?

 

Forgot to mention, I tried a more tight & a less tight belt adjustment - no change!

 

Can't say I'm particularly worried about it anymore...
But damn, what is it ??? hehe

 

With you on that KY...beginning to not worry about it,but, what the heck is it!? Hopefully a tech from a dealership or independent shop will see this and chime in with the answer.

 

I've heard that the stock compensators on 2007 and newer bikes have a weak spring pack. I'm wondering if this is the cause of our "tinking" on hard acceleration. Maybe this unit can't compensate like it is supposed to (especially after stage one or more mods). The sound might be the compensator hitting the rotor. I'm no expert, just thinking outloud. If I'm right, then the fix is the SE Compensator which sells for $249. Anybody done this and, if so, did you get rid of the "tinking?"

 

Dude...I don't even have a compensator & I still get it! The compensator f-up is more of a deep clunk knock sound.

 

...6200 flawless miles until this past weekend. Now this noise shows up. I always use BP 93. (It had gotten up to low 70's when it did it this past week) I've ran it all summer long last year without a peep. Count me in.

 

I have the SE Comp and I still have the tink.

 

I was hearing this sound too and decided to try running 93 octane gas instead of the 87 octane I'd been running. That seemed to do the trick for me. No more "tinging" sound on hard acceleration for me. I'm kinda surprised that it seems to have worked, but it does seem to have fixed it for me.

 

I think it might be detonation. Even if you are using 93 octane, could be other factors.
