Question Lowrider Tank Trim

I picked up the chrome tank trim for my lowrider and have a question about the attaching the chrome gauge housing. I know this has been discussed before but couldn't find it on the search. Once the trim is on the tank and I don't want to use the ugly black rubber seal around the bottom of the housing so what are my options? I seem to remember someone using silicone or something in place of the seal, are there additional options? Thanks.

I have the chrome trim and the chrome dash housing on my bike, but run the seal that came with it. Had taken it off at one time, but was getting water under there when it rained. My brother however does not use it and seems to have no problems with his....I had a grounding issue when it rained heavy...
