ok so i was flipping through my new fat book from drag and found a really cool speedometer that i like. but it says its just for different gear ratio's like 1:1, 2:1 or 2240:60 ratios so on and so forth. So what gear ratio is a 08 fxdc speedometer?

olden days speedo's used to have a cable and read the revolution of the wheel. Will your speedo you like work in place of the current electronic speedo. Check the description.

Man, did you have to put it like that?
How does the song go..... "I'm not old, just older".... yeah, that's it.
i know mine isn't gear driven at all, theres a hall-effect sensor that reads pulses off of 4th gear in my 5-speed. i would think that it would be a similar setup for a newer model
I called my local HD and talked to the service guy. He said that my 08 would be elctrical driven no gears to mess with. Dang i really liked that gauge. oh well i'll just have to keep on looking.

As you consider changing speedos, keep in mind most aftermarket units will not provide all functions of the OEM or Harley replacement speedos.
Harley units receive info from various sensors and the ECM via a J1850 databus. Most aftermarket units do not have the ability to read these signals. As a result, you lose the diagnostic display and info, and check engine light at your speedo. Most do display signal indicators, high beams, oil pressure, voltage warning.
