My wife and I have an understanding. I let her do what she wants to the house with no questions, and she lets me do what I want to the bike with no questions. kind of just "works out" for us.

I agree with your thought to the extent that strangers or casual acquaintences (who don't share our viewpoint) do not make enough of a difference in our lives to waste our effort or resources to try ....
Which really brought me to my conclusion about indulgence .... Although in some senses of the word, I don't think it is that appropriate--meaning, I don't, or shouldn't have to, feel guilty for taking pleasure in my interest in bikes.
Some great thoughts fellas ... thanks for posting and keep 'em coming.

My wife doesn't care as long as it's not too much at once financially. She loves going for rides and stuff, but to her a bike is a bike...she doesn't really look at it beyond that. She understands that I'm giddy as all hell every time I put a new part on, but she doesn't understand it. The only say she's had in what goes on it was the couple things she needed for her to be able to ride with me, and even then I tried to meet her needs while keeping it from steering away from my vision for the bike.

I hear alot of 'why did you pay so much for a bike?' or 'you are just buying a brand name' or 'harleys are overrated' And it usually comes from somebody who doesnt ride a motorcycle anyways. So i just say 'if you were really committed to riding, you wouldnt say that,And if you were serious about riding, you would already be on a Harley rather than talking about one. It's a sarcastic statement for sure, cuz i dont really think a brand of bike determines whether or not you are a serious rider, but it usually shut up a retard who doesnt know what they are talking about. Hey Priest,i see your bike is in front of a sign that says 'SUPPO' you on a navy base? which one?
