Hey does anyone know if there is a direct plug and play HID replacement headlight I can get for my street bob? I have seen a few HID kits but there are ballasts that have to be hidden or "put" somewhere.

Thanks,

Chris

i have never used a HID that was plug and play... all of them req a bit of wiring... i have always stashed the Ballasts and igniters in the headlight housings... (the installs i did where on Softtail heritages so the buckets where HUGE with plenty of room... the last one i did was out of a buddies grand pre... one burned out and he did not want to spend the $$$ to replace it, so we took out the good working one and put it in his bike... amazing amount of light on that sucker and it does not really get as super hot as you would think

a great replacement headlight bulb is the sylavnia silverlight bulb only $20.00. cant remeber the number off hand, but hope someone will chim in with it, or find out at the autostore. works very well with no mods. at least 10 times brighter lighting and a white light not the yellowish lighting of the harley stock bulb, that doesnt light up nothing. jackyl

Kury makes one, but I've heard its a pos. There are some great kits out there with tiny ballasts, very high quality. Definitely NOT plug n play though.

What kind of HID kit are you running on your bob? Also where is everyone putting the ballasts? Will they fit in the stock headlight housing?

A true HID headlamp is going to require a ballast. There is no way around that because HID is a completely different animal from a normal filament type bulb. The light generated by an HID bulb is the result of a spark at the polls inside the bulb. It requires approx 24,000 volts to generate that spark, and that's the function of the ballast: to step 12 volts up to 24,000. If you could somehow manage to merely plug a HID bulb directly into your existing headlight wiring harness, nothing would happen.

I run the DDM. Got it from Xenon Experts.

I'll post a pic of the ballast when I get home. It sticks nicely to the frame near the steering head. Will not fit in the headlight bucket.

I use the sylvania ultras. There are like a notch below HID without the wiring. I have them in both my cars also and a world of difference.

X2 on the Sylvania Ultra SilverStars. Also run them in my truck, and they throw an incredible white beam. No need for a HID, unless you like 'em for the 'wow' factor.

I got a bulb from H-D that is a nice improvement over the stock one. I would get the HID kit from Howard at www.motorcyclemetal.com if you choose to go that route.
