Default Extended warranty

Just heard from the dealer that my warranty is almost up on my '07 Bob. Actually, my wife took the call. I don't know what kind of money they want for it. Any thoughts on whether an extended warranty is worth the money?

I can tell you one thing i bought one when i bought my bike at $950 for extended warranty and tire and wheel coverage. That being said if you wait to buy one till when 2yr factory warranty is almost up i have heard the price doubles or more. My warranty gets me out to 5yrs i asked one time what it would cost to get 2more years to get me out to 7 years and they said now it would cost me $2,500 said if i wanted that long i should have got it when i bought the bike. So i will stick with my 5year. At the rate i ride i will have about 60,000 to 70,000 on the bike by then and any problems should have come up i hope

All any extended warranty is, is an insurance policy.

By purchasing one, you are betting that something is going to break on your bike.
The seller of the warranty is betting that nothing is going to break.

So, how do you feel about the bike? Has it been pretty much trouble free so far? Or have you had to have multiple issues fixed?
Remember, the extended warranty does not cover normal wear and maintenance. So, you'll still be responsible for taking care of those items.

In most cases, you never get your money's worth out of extended warranties.
But if something went wrong, the warranty would pay for itself for one issue.

Your call.

Got one with the bike - it lowered the payments rate by a point so there was a saving there. Plus, I had an *** load of problems with my Sportster, and I plan on keeping this bike a very long time. Sure it's bet in the negative (I'll pay you xxx dollars because I think something nasty's going to break), but that's fine. As someone else said, if something serious does happen, the warranty will have paid for itself in a single trip to the stealer.

PLUS, anything at all that bugs me with the bike (errant warning lights, squeaks, rattles, groans, unusual and odd sounds and wobbles etc) I can drag the thing straight back there and say "fix it".

Default Extended Warranty

I had an extended warranty on my Buell it was not worth the paper it was printed on. I had a rear tire bearing failure at 85 MPH. I fought I loss tire pressure. the bike got real squirrelly on be had to pull over to the side of 78. The only thing they told me was the bearing was cover. not the wheel or any other broken parts.

I called customer service and they tried to tell me to read the manual. After winter storage you must bring the bike to the dealer for bearing inspection, and I am lucky that they are paying for the bearing. This after waiting one hour on hold. Sorry I loss it. I told them that number one I ride the bike at least one a week all year round, Number two the bearing are seal and I check my wheels every time I ride the bike my life depends on them. I told them if this happen to a new rider you would be getting sue for death or injury. They told me this must be settle with extended warranty service and they could not help me. I told them you will be hearing from my lawyer. I call extended service and was on hold for only a half an hour. They told me read part two of my contract and it states that the wheels, brake pads rotor tires are not cover only the bearings. I told then I do not have part two only were I signed the contract part one . I love the answer we will send you part two for no charge. You can not make this stuff up. I told tell I have been riding and racing motorcycles longer then you have been alive. The damage to the wheel was cause by the fail bearing. We can not help you. I told them You will be hearing from my lawyer. I am going to try and write or talk to Eric Buell. I met him at Liberty Buell and talk to him during the band break for about half an hour. I hope he remember me.

Just wanted to let everybody know the outcome of my repairs. Finally got the bike back on October 3 2007. the final cost to me over 500 dollars, great extended warranty. I had to except a blemish wheel or they would have had my bike for another month. Received no help from Harley or Mr Buell. Rode the bike home the back brakes would not work. Put full weight on the pedal only slow down a little. Had to repair the rear brake at home. My advice to anyone is not to take your bike to HD Edison or get the extended HD warranty

Don't give them idle threats. If you say you're going to get a lawyer, then by god get one. They're probably laughing and talking about if they had a nickel for every time they heard someone say that.

Bought an extra 4 years just before my 2-yr was up...paid $1200. I'd had the IPB failure at 3900, so I'm waiting for my stator to self-destruct. One might make out better putting the 1200 in a money market fund, or even taking the it to the casino for one red/black spin of the roulette wheel. I like long roadtrips, so the peace of mind it buys me is worth something. Then again, you hear stories like the above one, from guys who try cashing in their peace of mind only to find some weasel-clause in paragraph 5, section 3-B, subsection iii. Make your decision, and be at peace with it.

I bought an extra 5 years on my '05 Wide Glide when I bought the bike. It was an extra $1200. I figured that since I was already spending 20 grand on a bike, what's another $1200 for peace of mind, especially since I was planning on keeping the bike for a long time, and knowing how much repairs on Harleys cost.

Well, last week a cam bearing went. The bike is in the shop right now being repaired. Harley is picking all but $50 of the $3200 repair bill, so I lucked out.

A few things you need to think about....how long do you plan to keep the bike? Is it transferrable so if you sell it, it might be a selling point? How many miles do you ride a year? How much?

Without that info, hard to give an opinion. The best warranty I had with harley, which they don't offer any longer, was 5 year ext on the sporty for $1000. One, I had the bike that long with 23k miles (I know, not alot compared to some). Two, if you didn't use it, you got 100% of your money back. Took a few months, but got a check for the full amount.

Anyway...fill in some of the blanks to help you make the decision.
