Default Question on used (2007) Street Bobs

I was going to do the trade-in on my Sporty for a Street Bob and the dealer was talking me into a 2009, which is awesome, but at $13k I can't afford the extra $$. He steered me away from looking at their previously-owned models, although I noticed they have a few 2007 models in stock.

Can anyone vouch for the '07s? Would I be giving up much with going with a 2007 model with <10k miles?

The dealer was trying to tell me the used bikes weren't that much less than the 09, and having the warranty would make it a better move on the new bike. I think it's just dealer-talk since they obviously want to move the new bikes.

But unless I can get a finance bike for closer to $10-11k I just can't swing it.

I like the 2009 but go for the 2007! Maybe they already have Exhaust/airfilter upgrades and som other stuff.
Saves you a lot of bucks.

There is a couple of good things with 2007 compared to 2009 (depending on what you like)

1. Black engine
2. Triple Trees that support other handlebars.

I like the rear fender on the 2009 but that´s an easyfix on the 2007 rear end.
I like the black rims on the 2009 as well.

handycam, I have a 2007 FXDB and I think it is fine, still has warranty on it.
I would have to say that I do not know the current buyback promotion, but most likely it is specifically for trading in a sportster on a new 2009.

If you were not going to use that promotion, I would suggest looking on craigs list, or ebay for a bike, I got mine with 400 miles on it, for just over 10k, and I think the prices have dropped since then.

If you are strictly dealing with a dealer then any savings you perceive will probably be taken by the trade in value, but im just speculating.

I believe one issue is the msrp was actually higher on the 2007 than the 2009 street bob.
Good luck with your search, their are really good deals to be had right now, its just a matter of finding them, and having the money or financing when you do.

Personally, I would look used before getting new, but I may be the minority,

Eric

All trade/finance issues aside; I would go with the 07'. Regular tripple trees and black motor, plus upgrades (assuming the 07' there has any). IMHO, the 09' locks you into a certain look, a cool look though, but one look none the less. Not everyone wants a chopped fender and sparto-esque tailight. Not ******* the 09' owners, just saying an 07'can be chopped, but an 09' cant be "unchopped" without spending cash.

Thanks. Actually the promotion does say they will give me full MSRP back on the Sporty towards any new or certified pre-owned Big Twin. Of all the big twins I would most like a Dyna, SuperGlide or Street Bob, but the SB is definitely more my style.

Personally I would go used and save some money to use on the mods you want.

Look at both and see which one appeals to you. Personally I think 07 was the best year for the Stret Bob so far, they got everything right that year.

I was looking into the same thing this fall. The '09 bob MSRP is lower that the previous year models. My dealer had both a new '08 (no security system) and '09 (security system) and they were selling them for the same price...somewhere around $13,000. I like the look of the older models better w/ the blacked out engine and I'm not a fan of the new taillight. It made it nice being able to look at the 2 models side by side and see all of the differences. So once I decided on the older model I did some looking on craigslist. I found an '07 with 2000 miles for $8500 and I bought it. With the cash I saved I put on the Vance and Hines black short shots, did the stage II upgrade, put on the upgraded Ness air cleaner, black air cleaner cover and black horn cover. Now I have the bike just as I wanted and it cost me $10,000 total...so I saved $3000 over the brand new that I would have wanted to make changes to anyway just adding to the cost. I'd say if you want to make any changes you should try to go used. I love my '07 and have had no issues.
