"New" Tail light installed
I've had this retro tombstone tail light that I bought off ebay sitting on my work bench since last summer. With snowy weather and temps in the low teens, I finally got around to installing the stinkin' thing.
Wasn't too tough. The wiring was fairly straight forward (with Service Manual wiring diagrams in hand) and I was able to mount it by only drilling one hole, in the middle of the original holes used for the stock license plate mount. The other bottom mounting point of the new light lined up with the existing opening in the fender where the stock light mounts - so I made up a bracket with a mounting hole in it that spanned this opening. No biggy.
Hardest part was coming up with a way to cover up the protrusion on top of the light housing that a license plate would normally mount to (as seen in the photo, I've got a side mounted license plate). While at my local dealer, I came across this wing/skull emblem (I think its for bling-ing up a sissy bar) that fit the bill nicely.
Watcha think?

Dig it, man! I've been trying to find one wide enough to fill the gap, as well ... ever since I saw Chipstah's. He's been sporting one on his Street Bob, too.
I am torn with trying harder to find one or just waiting until I replace the rear fender; and, just get a smooth fender I can drill out to accept a tombstone and close-in bullet turn signal bar like JMPANCOAST just mounted ... I'd like my rear fender to end up lookin' like a Softail Deluxe fender, more or less.
Great job, ROK! Rocks!!
