I'm usually pretty good about this, but I had a brain fart last week - walking through Sears, knowing I had a pretty good winter project on my hands, I couldn't help but take advantage of a marked down red Craftsman motorcycle jack.

Most of you know where this is going - the darn thing doesn't fit under a Dyna (at least not my Fat Bob). Taking the trip back home and looking up what the forum knows about the "red jack" and how it doesn't fit under the Dyna would have saved me the headache. Instead of a deal, I'm turning wrenches with the bike on the kick stand and I paid Sears 15% to put my "used" jack back in the stock room.

Don't be like me, do your research!

+1 on the search. You will also find that a cutoff wheel is your friend too. My duralast jack wouldn't fit until I "trimmed some fat". If you can weld, you'll have it even better. Why wouldn't the red jack fit??? I know plenty of people here use them.

I use a Red Sears Jack...it's not a perfect fit but it works. I put a small piece of wood on one side.

I had the bike leaning way over to one side and still only managed to get about two inches under the opposite side. When I looked for tips on here, I read a bunch of folks that had similar issues with the clearance on some Dynas, depending on the model, since parts of the bike hang below the frame.

There are some other negative posts about the quality of the "low profile" yellow Craftsman jack, so I passed on that one, too. I'll survive without one for the time being.

If you get two small pieces of wood (one under each tire) and roll the bike up onto them, you will get much better clearance. I have heard that many people are pleased with the yellow jack...the red seems to get crappy reviews though. I got mine from autozone and havn't had any problems with it. It is a duralast and cost $80. I did have to cut off a forward tie-down point to fit it past the kick stand though.

The red jack was a little tricky at first, but now I have my sytem and can get the bike up and stable in 5 mins. I have to have the tires up on 2x4's to get it to work. I'm a cheap *** though, I'll almost always buy the cheap $hit and make it work.

The jack works just fine, you have to roll the front wheel up onto a 2x4, or in my case, a 4x8 piece of wood. This is pretty common on most of the inexpensive jacks when used on a Dyna. You will also need 3 pieces of 2x4 & a 3/16" or 1/4" thk. piece of something to go under the transmission guard. Or buy the spacer kit from H-D.
