It might be worth swapping your new bars and running the wires on the outside of the bars and "test" riding your new bars for a while to be 100% sure they are right for you. This would take an hour tops and when you,re sure they are ok switch the wires to internal.........i changed mine, internally wired twice in less than a month and it is a fiddley job....... but if you,re sure go for it.

It's a pretty cool job to do if ya like workin on stuff. I usually have a patience issue, I've been alot better the last couple of years, just try to have some & it'll be real easy! Don't think I'd worry about takin pictures cause all ya gotta do is match the colors on the wires when ya put the plugs back together! Have fun & cover your tank!

This is the best advice I never received before I swapped bars.

When you run the wires internally, do they come out above the risers or do you run them down the risers? Probably a stupid question but I just cannot seem to figure that out when looking at my bike. Thanks...

On mine I ran them out the bars under the riser cap, so between the risers. That way you don't see them. On the triple trees there is a hole under the riser clamp the wires pass through. Once you actually start, it will all become very clear.

If you need more wiring for taller bars, here is an alternative to splicing in extensions. For under $50.00, you can get new control switches with almost 4 feet of wiring. You run the new wiring through the bars, cut to length, and crimp new terminals. Here is a link:

As changing your bars probably won,t be a one off i,d have a go yourself. Its time consuming but do-able for anyone with a little forthought, time and a manual / this forum and s few basic tools. As mentioned it will save you a fortune and will give you a good feel about yourself......yes really.
