going to a less padded seat may coause more discomfort than getting some 12" shocks. you bike stock comes with 12.6" shocks. I highly recommend works performance tracker shocks installed. 12.1". your ride quality will vastly improve over stock. www.worksperformance.com you will need to call and talk to a rep to get pricing and go over options... the cool thing about works is they are built specifically for your weight and riding style. The tracker series of shocks will be less $ than a set of progressive 440 shocks.

There is a really good article in Feb American Iron about this. It clarifies a lot of things. Seats are a good option, something like the reach seat helps those of us that are vertically challanged, (I'm 5'4 or so and shrinking) if you need more I think it worth the time to read the article My sporty had been lowered in the rear, but not the front. They just pushed the forks up higher in the triple tree. Not a good idea. I have not changed the front, but did put the forks back where they belonged and do not notice a handling problem
