Default OMG! This thing is a gas hog!

I only got 44.4 mpg on my first tank of gas. I'm taking it back to the dealer. That is just ridiculous. I never got less than 50 mpg on my Sporty and routinely got 55 mpg--even got 62 mpg once.

Edit: I can't believe so many people are taking this post seriously.

Hey, wish mine would do that good. Generally around 32 in city and with the wind to my back, 39-40 on Hwy. Stage II 103 build and gas is cheap and I'm happy. Knowing your post is tongue in cheek.

Good luck... The big twins are not gas sippers. I have a 103" with several mods. I average 40mpg. Depending on how I hit the throttle.

Default What are you thinking?

Well, the Sporty has a smaller engine and is a lighter bike so wouldn't you think you would get worse gas mileage with a Dyna? I would say 45 mpg is pretty average for a stock Dyna.

Yea, I was gettin' an avg of 36.5 mpg...that's with 95% city riding(alot of stop and go and sittin' at lights). After my 1000 service and changing to Amsoil 20/50, my mpgs dropped to 33.5 and my last tank was 34.

I was thinkin' the mpgs would improve with getting more miles on the motor and switchin' to synth oil, but it's worse.

Still love this freakin' bike though...I don't care what the mpgs are, it's a keeper.

Hey Gary,

Welcome to the big twin side. Maybe my sarcasm detector is malfunctioning today, but 44 mpg ain't ridiculous. And you'd most likely lose your shirt financially if you're serious about trading it back in to the dealer. It's gonna take a helluva lot of miles on a sportster (in gas savings) to make up for the money you lost by returning it. You're talking, what, 6 - 10 mpg difference? Do the math and be glad you're on a Dyna!

Again, I'm hoping you were being sarcastic about taking it back. Chances are, you've got a big 'ol grin on your face every time you start her up.

Dude its your first tank. It will get a bit better but I wouldnt expect 55-62MPG as your average.. But hey if you want to take it back go for it.
