Congrats on your new glide ! For what its worth, i never used 6th gear during the first 500 miles, i stayed completely away from lugging the motor at all cost, and now with 4000 miles on my 08 superglide the bike has not used any measurable amount of oil to speak of. Enjoy your new bike bro !
I agree with thought of highway pegs, gives me a chance to shift back and forth on longer rides and give my back a break here and there. But like it was said before, rides like a Cady on warm summer day.......
I'm used to a loud clunk on the Sportster when you put it in 1st but on the Glide I didn't feel or hear a thing. I didn't even realize I'd put it in gear when I stepped on the shifter. Clutch pull is much lighter than on the Sporty. Overall, the 6 speed tranny shifts more like a Jap bike than my Sportster ever did. The shift throws are short and light with not near as much clunk as you shift up through the gears.
Don't worry - you will eventually get the fabled Harley "clunk" - especially if the bike is cold. Once underway, Harley's 6-speed tranny is damn near Jap-like in it's shifting. I don't recall ever shifting into a false neutral. You'll also notice that when downshifting into 1st or 5th, you'll hear the characteristic whine of the straight-cut gears (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th are helical cut). Long story short, Harley has a kick *** tranny although 6th gear is very tall and isn't much use for speeds below 70mph.
