I notched mine the same way the HD detatchables are notched. The plate is plenty thick, so I doubt the integrity is compromised. The notches are the same on the HD part, so I doubt the structural integrity is compromised, either.

How do you guys keep from scratching your fender during install/removal? There doesn't appear to be a lot of room for error...

Not an issue with the docking kit and detachable plates.

But the detachable plates are an issue with my Easy Brackets posts. Hence the interest in the notching rigid side plates thread...

I use two thin plastic cutting sheets from the kitchen*, kind of like how a shoehorn works.

True, but I'm not a fan of the mounting bungs hanging out there when the backrest is off.
