Put the extra heavy in my UC last month, took it out today, SE fork poil muight be right for you but the extra heavy was way too stiff of a ride for me on the Ultra. I put in Mobil 1 trans fluid instead, will work up a blend of oil to get a 7 visc oil for next month.

The nice thing is that the heavier oil will reduce dive and the bike will handle marginally better. The bad thing is the ride will completly suck(on rogh surfaces) because the rebound will be slower. You really need to find the right "blend" and amounts of oil.I use 5 oz. of racetech us-2(10 wt) mixed with 6 oz of us-3 (15wt)

I recently replaced my fork springs (08 FXD) with Progressive springs. The instructions stated not to fill the oil higher than 5.5" below the top. The service manual said 4.3" from top with factory springs. I carefully measured to 5.5" below top with factory fork oil (~ 25oz.) per tube. I can't say I really feel much of a difference. Could be because I weigh 250.
What did those of you who replaced your springs go with for oil levels?

Hey devil, initially I put the SE oil in with stock set up & made a good difference. Later I added the progressive springs to lower 1 inch & got even better for the way I ride. You'll like it, it's cheap enough to do it all at once.

Bel Ray makes 7wt fork oil....actually they make 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, and 30wt.

The factory fork oil is 5wt., which is what most forks come from from the factory, even long travel motocross bikes with inverted forks and 12'' travel.

Screamin Eagle Racing Fork Oil is 20wt and is intended for the severe conditions of the race track, and is not intended for street use. Going from one extreme to the other with fork oil, and the results will be predictable. It is best to make one step changes, maybe two maximum, in fork oil vicosity.

I think the SE fork oil will help quite a bit with the soft suspension without fretting about springs.

I'm curious why some of you that have bought lowering springs didn't just trim 1" off the stock spacers?

When I upgraded my suspension I used Screamin' Eagle fork oil filled to 5" from the top of the tube. I also installed Race-Tech's Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators. Installing the emulators required drilling six large diameter holes in a certain pattern in the dampening rods to handle the increased oil flow of the nearly sealed system and trimming the spacers to maintain stock ride height.

All I can say is: "I got it right."

the progressives will firm up the dive a bit. They are not all that great over multiple bumps though...pretty rough.
