Default High Flow Air Filter recommendation

Looking to complete my stage 1 this winter. Without spending a fortune, can you guys recommend a high flow air cleaner kit I can put on my twin cam 88 (carbed)? Thinking of just getting a Screaming eagle kit. Maybe just putting a K&N filter on my stock backplate assembly. Will that do the trick?

Putting a K&N on the stock backplate will probably increase airflow but is not a true stage 1 solution. That's why the stage 1 kits include a replacement backing plate. Popular options are the SE kit, K&N kit, and the Arlen Ness Big Sucker kit. The K&N kit has the million mile filter of course and the big sucker has a K&N-like filter that can also be cleaned and re-oiled every x-thousand miles without needing to be replaced. Several online resources can get you one of these kits around the $100 price point.

based on your signature, don't you have a stage one air cleaner? Wimmer and S&S are superior to H-D and Ness offerings in airflow.

Are you refering to the picture? It's a stock filter assembly but I customized the cover so it looks cooler.

I pieced one together. I got the SE backplate from a friend and ordered the Zipper's Performance upgraded filter and mounting hardware. The filter is a K&N but is taller than the normal SE K&N filter by about 5/8".
